SPECIAL GUEST SPEAKERS: UAW PRESIDENT SHAWN FAIN & CGIL INTERNATIONAL REPRESENTATIVE
Every year, working people around the country and the world, return to what happened here on May Day: the fight for dignity and respect, for justice, and for the simple right to an eight-hour day.
On May 4, 1886, a peaceful labor protest was shattered when a bomb was thrown—sparking chaos, deaths, and injuries—and unleashing a crackdown that ended with labor activists arrested, convicted, and executed despite limited evidence.
This year, the Italian General Confederation of Labour (CGIL) and the United Auto Workers (UAW) will add their plaques to the base of the Haymarket Memorial—joining a living testament to solidarity that still demands we remember and continues the call to action.
